What is an equine nutritionist?

An equine nutritionist is a person that specializes in providing information related to equine feeding challenges. Problems that may require professional help include feeding younger or older horses, feeding horses that have environmental sensitivities, feeding horses that have specific medical conditions, feeding performance/work horses among others.

Your local feed store may have access to or staff an equine nutritionist. Most veterinarians are trained in equine nutrition. In agricultural areas, the county agent may be a good resource for local nutritional challenges.

Always ask for references and take care in selecting an equine nutritionist.
