Leading equine rescues and sanctuaries from across the country will participate in the 2015 Homes for Horses Coalition conference, September 25th and 26th in Irving, Texas.

The conference opens with a Friday networking reception. Networking with likeminded individuals is one of the highlights and most beneficial activities of industry conferences. Saturday’s schedule includes a full day of panel discussions on innovative marketing for adoptable horses, working with law enforcement to assist at-risk horses, developing major donors, and community outreach.

“One of the best ways for rescues and sanctuaries to learn new and better methods for doing things is by hearing from other equine protection organizations that have overcome the same obstacles to excel in particular areas. That is why our speakers are from among the country’s top rescues and sanctuaries,” said Cindy Gendron, Homes for Horses Coalition Coordinator.

Panelists include:

  • Karen Gustin, Executive Director, Kentucky Equine Humane Center
  • Nina Margetson, Executive Director, Horse Haven of Tennessee
  • Karen Medicus, Senior Director, ASPCA Community Initiatives
  • Joanne Miller, Executive Director, Brook Hill Farm
  • Erin Ochoa, Executive Director, Days End Farm Horse Rescue
  • Susan Pierce, President, Red Bucket Equine Rescue
  • Steuart Pittman, President, Retired Racehorse Project
  • Karen Pomroy, Executive Director, Equine Voices Rescue and Sanctuary
  • Jacque Schultz, Senior Director, ASPCA Equine Fund
  • John Thompson, Deputy Executive Director, National Sheriffs Association

The conference is open to anyone involved in, or interested in, horse rescue and sanctuary work. Because of the generosity of the Coalition’s sponsoring organizations, the conference is offered at the minimal registration cost of $25 for members. Non-members can register for $75.  Registration prior to June 25th puts participants in the running for special prizes.  Additionally, the ASPCA Equine Fund is offering five travel stipends to fledging organizations, to help offset the costs of attending the conference.

â€œTo have this cumulative expertise in one place at one time is a unique experience and I hope that many rescues will be able to take advantage of this amazing networking opportunity,” said Gendron.  The full line up of sessions and speakers can be viewed at  bitly.com/horseconference.
