Their goal is to massively increase horse adoption in the United States. The Right Horse Initiative has the primary goal of increasing the number of horses adopted annually nationwide and a secondary goal of providing more resources in communities to horse owners.

Each year, hundreds of thousands of horses are transitioned from career or ownership. A growing number of these horses end up at risk of inhumane treatment. Led by the WaterShed Animal Fund, The Right Horse Initiative has been developed in order to unify horse industry professionals, equine welfare advocates, and the broader horse loving public to improve the lives of horses in transition.

The Right Horse is committed to providing more resources in communities for horse owners. Many neglect situations in this country are a result of a good family simply falling on hard times. Or in some cases, neglect can be a lack of information or education.

The Right Horse believes that they can reduce the number of bad outcomes for horses in transition simply by providing alternatives for owners in tough situations.

The Right Horse Initiative promotes horse adoption as one of the preferred methods of finding your next horse. This unique partnership commits the time, talent, and resources to promote horse adoption through education, training, and public awareness on a national level. Together we will work to achieve our goal to massively increase the number of horse adoptions nationwide.

As a partner in The Right Horse Initiative, we’re proud to support a national movement reframing the conversation about equine adoption. EQUUS Film Festival is working with The Right Horse Initiative to promote equine adoption as well as the bond between horses and humans. We are good people for good horses, and everyone who loves horses has ownership in this movement. To learn more about The Right Horse Initiative, visit the righthorse.org.
