Indiana authorities in Henry County report that a north Henry County man has surrendered 21 horses, a dog and five puppies after the deaths of four horses on his property.

An investigation started on Monday of this week when a passerby noticed what looked like a dead horse under a tarp. The authorities were told by the owner that the horse died about two weeks ago while birthing a foal.

On Thursday the animals were taken to the Henry County Saddle Club by volunteers. One horse was about 150 pounds underweight and all the horses showed signs of malnutrition. Although some hay was available, it wasn't of a good enough quality to ensure horse health.

The case have been forwarded to the Henry County prosecutor, who will determine if charges would be filed.
