Final Day of Bidding for Zenyatta Halter

An eBay auction of a halter worn by Zenyatta during her broodmare career at Lane’s End Farm is set to close at 4:54pm EDT March 21, 2012. The halter was placed for auction by the Rood & Riddle Foundation, the non-profit arm of Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital, with proceeds going to the Bluegrass Chapter of the American Red Cross. The funds will be designated to aid with disaster relief in the wake of recent tornadoes and severe storms in the state which killed 21 Kentuckians.

Auction of Zenyatta's halter to benefit Kentucky toronado victims

Rood Riddle and Foundation is auctioning a halter worn by Zenyatta during her broodmare career to benefit the Bluegrass Chapter of the American Red Cross.

As a racehorse, Zenyatta was 2010 Horse of the Year and Champion Older Mare 2008-2010. Zenyatta won 19 of 20 starts, and set the North American female earnings record with lifetime earnings of $7,304,580. Zenyatta was retired from racing at the end of 2010 and recently gave birth to her first foal at Lane’s End Farm.

The halter can be found on eBay, under the username “roodandriddle”. It comes with a letter of authenticity signed by Bill Farish of Lane’s End Farm. The bidding has currently reached $2,600.

“The veterinarians and staff of Rood & Riddle are pleased to help with the Red Cross’s relief efforts in those parts of Kentucky that were devastated by the recent tornadoes,” said Dr. Thomas Riddle, co-founder of the hospital. “The auction of Zenyatta’s halter is an exciting opportunity to purchase a piece of history and at the same time support the many people whose lives have been affected so dramatically.”
