The founder of a Bunker Hill therapeutic farm has been charged with animal cruelty after two horses died.

In late August, a group of animal enthusiasts reported finding a dead horse and another in extremely poor health at Full Quiver Farms Equine Mentoring Ministry, where Leanna R. Sharp provides equine therapy to troubled children and teens. The second horse died days after its removal from the farm.

Leanna R. Sharp has now been charged with class A misdemeanor animal cruelty. She has an initial court hearing Jan. 5  in Miami County Superior Court.

Miami County sheriff’s deputy Casey Bailey, the investigating officer, said a report from Purdue University showed the horse that was rescued had died of malnutrition and showed signs of muscle loss.

Miami County Prosecutor Bruce Embrey filed the charge. On Wednesday, he acknowledged the charge was related to the horse’s deaths, but he declined to comment on the case’s specifics.
