As Santa Anita opened its 77th winter season on December 26, 2013, it took on an expanded role of primary proponent of horse racing in Southern California as a result of the closure of Hollywood Park.

According to Track President, George Haines, Santa Anita is ready to embrace the challenges. With the great Southern California weather, the prognosis is "extremely positive for California racing."

To adjust for the additional racing dates, tests have been conducted on the track and weather conditions are being monitored carefully to adjust accordingly to handle the additional racing schedules.Over $15 million has been spent to renovate the club house mezzanine level betting area, new concession stands, a new sports bar and a redesigned Chandelier Room in the turf club.

The jockeys, the horses, and the crowds will all be there to enjoy the setting and the excitement generated by large purses, good weather, and a multitude of people set to enjoy a day at the track
