Following our passion to provide horses with the best care possible, Brazos Valley Equine Hospital (BVEH) has launched a new service dedicated to improving the ophthalmologic diagnostic and treatment options available to horse owners.

Beginning May 28th, Dr. Dennis Brooks, an authority on equine eyes,will be receiving appointments and doing surgery at BVEH-Navasota, making this one of the few equine exclusive ophthalmology specialty services in the USA.

At BVEH we recognize that the eyes are critical to the health, performance, and wellbeing of the horse and place great value in providing patients with state of the art ophthalmology diagnosis and treatment. We are excited to report the launch of a new ophthalmology service at BVEH-Navasota.

Beginning Tuesday, May 28th, the internationally renowned, Dr. Dennis Brooks, will be receiving appointments and doing surgery at BVEH-Navasota. As an authority on equine eyes, Dr. Brooks will be seeing horses during his monthly visits making this one of the few equine exclusive ophthalmology specialty services in the USA.

BVEH will be scheduling cases for Dr. Brooks to evaluate on May 28th and 29th. Cases will be seen at BVEH’s facility in Navasota, TX. Both complicated referral and primary cases will be seen by Dr. Brooks. After the 29th of May, Dr. Brooks will be returning to BVEH-Navasota the last Tuesday and Wednesday of every month. About Dennis Brooks: a pioneer in equine ophthamology

Dennis Brooks, DVM, PhD, DACVO is a pioneer in equine ophthalmology. Not only did he write “Ophthalmology for the Equine Practitioner”, one of the most frequently consulted textbooks on disorders of the equine eye, he has also has helped train many of the top specialists in the USA.

Dr. Brooks is currently a professor of ophthalmology at the University of Florida, where he helped build one of the busiest ophthalmology caseloads in the world. He has lectured extensively, both nationally and internationally, and has more than 150 publications.

He is a recognized authority on glaucoma, infectious keratitis, and corneal transplantation and has been featured in many horse publications. He is one of the most respected ophthalmologists in America and the premier equine eye specialist. He will be performing detailed ophthalmology exams to develop advanced treatment plans and performing eye surgeries which include corneal grafts, corneal transplants, cataract surgery, enucleations and many other advanced eye surgeries.

BVEH-Navasota is a primary and referral equine hospital located 60 miles north of Houston, Texas. The practice features progressive techniques with state of the art equipment. BVEH-Navasota is staffed by multiple board-certified specialists in Internal Medicine, Surgery, and Emergency / Critical Care.

Built in 1987, the clinic in Navasota is a progression of the practice started by Dr. Terrell “T-Bone” Buchanan in 1966.  BVEH has expanded from his original head-quarters the parking lot of a hardware store to multiple specialty clinics in Texas. BVEH provides primary care, sports medicine, surgery, and reproductive services.
