Professional Farriers Honor Larry Rumsby

Canadian farrier Larry Rumsby APF of Bromont, Quebec received special recognition recently when he was named the first honorary member of the American Association of Professional Farriers (AAPF). Larry was presented with a forged horseshoe coat rack, designed and forged by AAPF Director Jennifer Horn APF CJF, at a reception in his honor at the Florida home of AAPF Vice President Dave Farley APF CF and his wife Karen.

Canadian farrier Larry Rumsby received special recognition when he was named the first honorary member of the American Association of Professional Farriers.

Larry is known around the world in the FEI sport horse world. For many years he traveled the world and was responsible for the shoeing of Eric Lamaze's Dutch Warmblood stallion Hickstead and other top Canadian jumpers.

Distinguishing qualities about Larry include:

•Extraordinary contributions to the farrier profession

•Willingness to share his knowledge

•Demonstration of superior quality work

•Going out of his way to help fellow farriers

Wearing Larry's shoes, Hickstead won the Gold Medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics (Hong Kong).

Larry's wife, Louise Mongeau, runs Marechalerie Bromont, a thriving farrier supply business, also in Bromont.

The American Association of Professional Farriers is a non-profit organization created to represent the interests of professional farriers and others involved in the farrier industry.  The primary objectives of the new association are: continuing education, member support and serving as a hoof-care reference for horse owners.  The AAPF is headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky.
