Kauffman’s Animal Health, Inc., a leader in the animal health industry for over 30 years, has combined flaxseed and fish oil into a highly palatable, balanced source of Omega-3 fatty acids for high performance equine athletes, as well as horses provided hay and grain without significant access to pasture.

Flaxseed (also known as linseed) is an excellent source of energy for horses due to its high fat content (about 41%) with a significant portion of the fatty acids being Omega-3, primarily ALA. It also has the potential to stabilize blood glucose levels and may benefit horses experiencing insulin resistance and Cushing’s disease.

Fish Oil is a significant source of DHA and EPA, precursors for eicosanoids that reduce inflammatory responses in several mammalian tissues. Further, it provides a higher energy density without the risk of hyperglycemic response compared with traditional grain mixtures.

Fenugreek is an herb that is a highly preferred flavor of horses. It is also a significant source of galactomannan that increases water binding capacity.

Both Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids are essential fatty acids and must be supplied to horses through their diet. Horses on hay and grain rations will not receive the same quantity and profile of Omega-3 fatty acids as horses allowed to graze pasture. Grains and vegetable oils are high in Omega-6 fatty acids, whereas pasture is exactly the opposite being high in Omega-3 fatty acids.

The old reliable stand-by ingredient supplying Omega-3 fatty acids to horses is ground stabilized flax or cold-pressed flaxseed oil. Recent research in fat supplementation of horses favors fish oil for three reasons: 1) produces a reduction in glycemic response to grain meals; 2) provides a concentrated source of highly digestible energy for performance athletes; and 3) contains a favorable Omega-3:Omega-6 ratio, featuring EPA and DHA. Kauffman’s Omega-3F replaces the essential omega-3 fatty acids needed by superior athletes due to lack of significant access to pasture.

The proprietary blend in Kauffman’s Omega-3F has been field-tested and will encourage even the most finicky eaters to consume all of their feed and lick the tub clean. Kauffman’s Omega-3F is a moist granular product and will eliminate the messy clean-up of your horses feed bucket that oils may cause.

In addition to Omega-3F, Kauffman’s Animal Health also offers a complete line of equine and canine supplements.
