When Hock Shield creator Shari Click of Click Horse Products asserts that “the healing process cannot begin unless a protective layer is in place,” it's as true for healing horse spirits as it is for hocks. Behind the Click Horse Products motto, 'Welcome to Our Herd,' and its logo of two horses nuzzling noses, is the story of RMR Horse Sanctuary, opened in 2007 to give American Standardbreds rejected or retired from their harness racing jobs a place to start a new life.

Throughout her years as a horse owner, Click as seen an overwhelming number of horses suffering from various sores on their hocks and after years of dedicated research and development, she created the Hock Shield.

“Faith, Whinny and Sierra were the original herd,” says Click, referring to a bay trio on HockShield.com's About Us page. “Faith and Whinny came to us as 'legs won't hold up to racing' three year-olds. Then the new kids, Ranger and Olive, arrived from Cal Expo race track in Sacramento. Ranger had unknown 'issues' and Olive had bowed a tendon and will never race again. When Whinny left her original herd to walk up and welcome the new horses, that was the moment that became my logo.”

Throughout her years as a horse owner, Click as seen an overwhelming number of horses, not just Standardbreds, suffering from various sores on their hocks. After years of dedicated research and development, she created the Hock Shield, that accommodates the full expansion of the horse's hock joint and allows a wide range of motion, from laying down to standing back up and walking around.

Using the material as in surfer wetsuits, the Hock Shield is a custom-fit hock protector designed to stay in place while preventing and helping heal hock sores, with a neoprene outer shell and soft fleece lining.

The Hock Shield (half-wrap), in two adjustable sizes, has a soft, flexible 'pocket' in the center back to provide comfort where tendons pass under the skin and is the perfect solution for most horses. The Hock Shield Ultra (full-wrap) comes in four sizes and can be used on arthritic hocks to prevent chill.

The thin neoprene and double layer fleece make a comfortable but tough boot to be worn full-time on horses with deep, chronic sores.
