Ariat International, leader in innovative Western & English footwear, apparel and accessories is the title sponsor of the Ariat Kentucky Reining Cup. The event is being held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky April 27 - 28, 2012 and will feature international Reining, a $25,000 World Freestyle Championship and is the only Three Star FEI Reining competition currently scheduled in the United States for 2012.

Reining is a judged event designed to show the athletic ability of a western type horse in a show arena.

In addition to providing major support as the title sponsor, two of Ariat’s sponsored Reiners are competing at this event including: Shawn Flarida, 2011 Ariat Kentucky Reining Cup champion, five-time Open Futurity champion and nine-time All-American Quarter Horse Congress defender as well as Tim McQuay, Hall of Famer who has won every major NRHA-sanctioned event, including the Futurity, the Derby, Superstakes, and the National Reining Breeders Classic. Also competing at the event is Ariat-supported Lyle Lovett, legendary singer/songwriter, well-known horse breeder and competitive Reiner.

Additionally, the Ariat team competing in the FEI Three Star Reining competition, known as a CRI3*, (Concours de Reining International) will consist of Ariat-sponsored Shawn Flarida as well as Shane Brown and Sam Smith.

Reining is a judged event designed to show the athletic ability of a western type horse in a show arena. In Reining, competitors are required to run one of several approved patterns. Each pattern includes small slow circles, large fast circles, flying lead changes, roll-backs, 360 degree spins done in place, back-ups and the exciting sliding stops that are the hallmark of the Reining horse.
