Ariat International, the leader in innovative Western and English footwear, apparel and accessories, has recently signed head trainer of Old Salem Farm, Frank Madden.

Madden stands out as one of the most successful and dedicated trainers of young and developing show jumping talent in the United States. He has trained several of the most promising equitation riders, as well as junior and amateur jumper riders, who have the potential to represent the United States at the highest levels of international competition.

Madden’s history includes coaching many riders to victory at the most prestigious championships in the country.  Through the past three decades, Madden has coached numerous celebrated riders including Candice King, who has gone on to represent the United States in several international competitions.

Madden’s protégé, Brianne Goutal, has won all four major equitation finals in 2005 and in 2006, she won her first Grand Prix. In 2008, Madden’s student Danielle Cooper captured the USEF Junior Hunter Championship and in 2010, Victoria Birdsall won the North American Equitation Championship.

Recently, student Katherine Strauss was on the Zone 2 Junior team that won the gold medal at the 2012 FEI North American Junior Young Rider Championships. With her top finishes, Strauss was named the Leading Junior Rider during the Hollow Creek Farm FEI Junior Nations Cup at the 2013 FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival.

Madden’s efforts have been recognized in various awards and honors such as the prestigious "Developmental Coach of the Year" award from the United States Olympic Committee. Madden was also the chef d'équipe of two Young Rider jumper teams at Monterrey and at the North American Young Rider Championships.

Additionally, as a member of the Beacon Hill Team, he was awarded the "Show Hunter Horseman of the Year" by The Chronicle of the Horse.  Madden has served on the USEF’s Equitation Committee and currently serves on the United States Hunter Jumper Associations’ Competition Standards committee.

Madden was an integral member of development for the Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament serving on the Board of Directors and now assists the American Gold Cup Management Team as they prepare to host the 43rd American Gold Cup at Old Salem Farm in September 2013.

“Frank is a dedicated and accomplished trainer for young show jumping talent,” said Susan Alcala, vice president of partnership marketing at Ariat. “We have been working with both John and Beezie Madden for several years, and this formal partnership with Frank is a natural progression of the relationship. It is an honor to have him join the Ariat team.”

“I am proud to be joining the Ariat team,” said Frank Madden. “Ariat is such a strong supporter of our industry, and I appreciate their commitment to contributing to the development and future of all equestrian sports. I look forward to working with them.”
