The clinic experience will include a 5-D jackpot barrel racing for clinic participants, as well as a trade show with a range of vendors, providing a full weekend of education, product availability and fun.

Amanda Johnson, marketing coordinator for Barrel Horse News, says the extensive nature of the weekend gives attendees a unique opportunity to improve any area of barrel racing needs.

"A New Turn: Improve More Than Just Your Time" is an event we developed to allow women the opportunity to experience an all-inclusive weekend that truly is a barrel racer's dream," Johnson said. "We want to have the world champions there for educational purposes and to help the rider and their horse. We will have vendors available to help women with fashion needs like proper jean and boot fitting for their shape and size, while at the same time, they can get fittings for tack and saddles."

"There will also be vendors offering massages and make-up,” Johnson continued. “It will be a fun, educational and encouraging event for riders of all levels."

The jackpot barrel racing will allow participants an opportunity for applying clinic experience, while the trade show will offer an extensive selection of tack and clothing as well as conversion companies for trailers.

Tickets will also be available for "Night with the Champions" dinner during the weekend event, which will feature Patti Colbert as guest speaker. Colbert is known for her legendary career in the equine industry, having served in many roles including former executive director of the Mustang Heritage Foundation and creator of the "Extreme Mustang Makeover."

Throughout the course of her career, Colbert has worked in numerous humanitarian and equestrian roles, such as former executive director of the American Quarter Horse Foundation, where she developed a number of scholarships for youth and grants for equine research. In 2011, she was awarded the Fern Sawyer award from the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, where she has served as a member of the board of directors and is credited for creating the concept behind the museum’s Cowgirl U program.

She and “Road to the Horse” creator, Tootie Bland also collaborated to found “Project Cowboy,” a competitive equestrian event that lends riders the opportunity to display their horseback talent in front of a television camera.

“A New Turn,” clinic will be led by Charmayne James and Kristie Peterson. Both are greats to the barrel racing industry, winning the coveted Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA) championship and qualifying for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (WNFR) multiple times throughout the course of their careers.

James won 10 WPRA titles with her horse Scamper—the first of which was won at the young age of 14, and her 11th title with Cruiser. Throughout her career, James was also WNFR Average Champion seven times and now has a successful career as a barrel racing instructor. Peterson trained the legendary Bozo, and together they won four WPRA titles and five WNFR average titles. Today, Peterson is also a successful instructor and trainer, in conjunction with her daughter, Jordan Briggs.
