The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the Pine Nut Wild Horse Advocates and the American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign (AWHPC) will host a community meeting to discuss future plans and the ongoing pilot program for the wild horses living in and around the Fish Springs area of Gardnerville, NV.
Working to keep wild horse herd manageable
Due to strong community support in the Fish Springs area the BLM has worked with AWHPC and the Gardnerville-based Pine Nut Wild Horse Advocates to establish a pilot program to manage the Fish Springs horses through humane birth control.

The purpose of the meeting is to inform the public of the project and to address questions.

In 2013, the BLM announced plans to remove the wild horses in the Fish Springs area due to public safety issues and resident complaints. Due to strong community support for wild horses in the Fish Springs area, over the past two years, the BLM has worked with AWHPC and the Gardnerville-based Pine Nut Wild Horse Advocates to establish a pilot program to manage the Fish Springs horses through humane birth control.

The Pine Nut Wild Horse Advocatesâ mission is to develop programs to keep wild horses wild and to educate local communities near the Pine Nut Mountain Range, Carson Valley Nevada about living in harmony with wild horses.
The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation.
