Attendees will be inspired to think outside the box at the 2017 Homes for Horses Coalition Conference on Friday and Saturday, September 22 and 23 in Los Angeles, CA.
This is the only national conference designed for horse rescues and sanctuaries and anyone in the equine welfare and protection community. The conference kicks off Friday afternoon with a spirited session for organizations to share their best ideas and most innovative programs.
Networking with likeminded individuals is one of the highlights of the conference.
Saturday will be a full day of workshops on important topics such as managing burnout and compassion fatigue in equine rescue work, planned giving and equine trusts, wild horses, disaster planning for equine facilities, fundraising, and welfare enhancing facility design and management.
Speakers include subject matter experts such as Dr. Linda Harper, clinical psychologist and author of the book, The Power of Joy in Giving to Animals, and Nina Ekholm Fry, adjunct professor and Director of Equine Programs at the Institute for Human-Animal Connection, University of Denver.
We will hear an encouraging presentation from Certified Fundraising Expert, Sandy Rees of Get Fully Funded, and will be inspired by a range of specialists from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and The Humane Society of the United States.
“Being able to ask questions directly related to your own issues and struggles, and to get constructive advice, is a whole lot more productive than going it alone. We all face challenges in our equine protection work, and getting relevant feedback can help,” said Cindy Gendron, Manager of The Homes for Horses Coalition.
“Hearing in person what is working well for others, and tailoring it to fit your own needs, can make a big difference in sustainability,” said Gendron.
Because of the generosity of the Coalition’s sponsoring organizations, the conference is offered at minimal registration cost. To top off a weekend of learning and networking, attendees will have the opportunity to relax and have fun, something many of them don’t get to do often because of their enormous responsibilities and commitment to the equines in their care.
