At the upcoming Equine Affaire on April 10-13 in Columbus, OH, horses will not be the only live animals on display. They’ll be joined by other traditional farm residents including poultry, goats, alpacas, llamas, and cattle in Equine Affaire’s exciting new “Hobby Farms® Pavilion”—a special area within the trade show dedicated to rural living for pleasure or profit.
Horse and goat as companions
At the upcoming Equine Affaire on April 10-13, 2014, in Columbus, OH, horses will not be the only live animals on display, but will be joined by other traditional farm residents such as goats.
“We believe that horse ownership and hobby farming are a natural fit,” explained Eugenia Snyder, President of Equine Affaire, “Our demographic data indicate that most attendees of Equine Affaire own horses, and the majority of those attendees maintain those horses on their own properties.
Like other Americans, horse people are reaching back to the roots of our nation’s heritage in farming—they are looking to live a self-sufficient lifestyle in which they can provide their families with safely sourced foods and a connection to the land that nourishes us.
Our goal with the new Hobby Farms® Pavilion will be to introduce horse and land owners to the livestock, products, and information they need to explore new ways to utilize their land and expand their operations. Horses may be just the beginning of a successful small acreage farm, and they can co-exist quite successfully with a variety of other farm animals and activities.”
The Hobby Farms® Pavilion will be presented in the Bricker Annex at the Ohio Expo Center. In addition to displays of livestock and livestock association booths, the pavilion will feature dozens of retail exhibits offering products, equipment, and information relating to hobby farming.
All facets of hobby farm life will be included in the pavilion from organic gardening and growing crops to containing, sheltering, and maintaining various types of livestock, and selecting the right tractor, mower, or other farm equipment.
Exhibits within the Hobby Farms® Pavilion will be complemented by seminars and demonstrations on hobby farming topics throughout the four days of Equine Affaire. “We hope to provide attendees with a wealth of information and opportunities to learn about a variety of farm animals and agricultural activities and inspire them to venture into hobby farming whether it’s for fun, self-sufficiency, or profit,” Snyder continued.
The new Hobby Farms® Pavilion at Equine Affaire is being sponsored by I-5 Publishing, publishers of Horse Illustrated, Young Rider, Hobby Farms, Chickens, and several other publications dedicated to the rural lifestyle.
“We’re delighted to be able to partner with I-5 Publishing on this project because of the company’s experience both within the equine and hobby farming communities,” Snyder explained,
“Equine Affaire is not straying too far from our mission to provide outstanding educational, shopping, and entertainment opportunities for horse people. We’re just offering horse people some different options to explore.”
