“Thank you to our dedicated students who push themselves to learn all they can about horse care, welfare and safety!” says Equine Guelph director, Gayle Ecker. “It has been such a wonderful 20 years building Equine Guelph with all of you and getting to know so many people in our horse industry!”
For 20 years, Equine Guelph has been the horse owners’ Centre at the University of Guelph – a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of horses. It serves the horse industry by providing educational opportunities for the horse owner and caretaker, including its award-winning online equine studies program; research to improve the health of the horse, and healthcare promotion.
In 2002, Equine Guelph launched the first online equine studies program in the world! 20 years later, the award-winning programs continue to be in demand, with many accolades for the quality of instruction, level of interactivity and flexible online study that fits into busy lives. Students benefit from leading instructors, industry experts, internationally renowned guest speakers and join a community of horse enthusiasts around the globe keen to share their experiences and learn from one another.
“I live my courses every day,” says Diploma in Equine Studies graduate, Elizabeth Hoyle. After a career in marketing and financial services, Hoyle wanted to pursue her passion for horses in earnest and build confidence by studying equine behaviour. “I wanted to make sure that I was doing the right stuff because it was validated by science. I can have legitimate conversations with my vet, equine therapist, and other horse professionals around me because I’ve been exposed to the new science that’s come out.” In May 2022 she completed her diploma with distinction and shared how taking Equine Guelph courses has changed her life.
