Ten eventing enthusiasts are now one step closer to winning a day of training with an Olympic rider in Practical Horseman’s “Training with the Stars.

One lucky winner will receive the grand prize: a clinic for them and nine of their friends at their barn with five-time Olympian Phillip Dutton.

The 10 finalists are:

  • Jessica Bowen,
  • Barbara Britt,
  • Shannon Brown,
  • Kenneth Peterson,
  • Deena Cahill,
  • Abbie Jones,
  • Erica Seas,
  • Beth Lumgair,

  • Amanda Mink.

All of these finalists submitted videos demonstrating their horsemanship skills. A winner will be announced in early September.

“While we were anticipating a great deal of excitement from the finalists, this group has exceeded all of our expectations with their wonderful essays and passion for eventing,” said Editor Sandy Oliynyk. “All of these finalists demonstrate a strong enthusiasm for the sport and for learning.”

Phillip has competed in five Olympic Games, winning two gold medals, and five World Equestrian Games. He also is a 13-time U.S. Eventing Association Rider of the Year and, in 2007, he won team and individual gold medals at the Pan-American Games.

Based at his True Prospect Farm in West Grove, Pennsylvania, which he owns with his wife, Evie, Philip coaches many adult amateurs and several U.S. Equestrian Team short-listed riders.

The 10 finalists will receive a copy of Modern Eventing with Phillip Dutton: The Complete Resource. Phillip’s book is a one-stop, comprehensive guide to training, conditioning and competing in each phase of eventing. He includes expert advice on tack and equipment, horse health issues, rider fitness, grooming, care of the event horse during competition and more.
