Fall is a traditional time for festivals and open houses, and this fall, The Homes for Horses Coalition is rallying its members to take part in its first National Open House Day. On Saturday, October 24, 2015, members from Oregon to Florida will be celebrating by holding events and inviting their communities into their barns.
This nationwide celebration is a chance for equine rescues and sanctuaries to show-off their beautiful horses and allow their communities to see first-hand the amazing work they do every day to rescue, protect, re-habilitate and re-home.
For the past 8 years, The Homes for Horses Coalition has been fostering growth, collaboration and professionalism among our nationâs equine rescue and protection organizations and wants the public to witness the fascinating and integral service they provide to their communities.
National Open House Day fosters awareness and commitment and simply gives those that donât normally get the chance an opportunity to see and touch horses and to feel their quiet power and magnetism, said Cindy Gendron, Coordinator of the Coalition.
These rescues and sanctuaries are community treasures. Beyond providing a safe harbor for at-risk horses, many of them provide classes in horse stewardship to new horse owners, therapeutic programs and experiential learning opportunities to vets and others with special challenges â and most do it as a labor of love without pay.
October 24 is the 26th annual Make a Difference Day, our nationâs largest day of community service. The Coalition encourages individuals to contribute time, money or needed items to a horse rescue on this day, but also encourages communities to witness and better understand the life-saving volunteer work that horse rescues and sanctuaries perform and meet the fabulous equine residents that are central to that work. Visit The Homes for Horses Coalition website to see if there is an event in your area.
