As President of the Brooke, the world's largest international equine welfare organization, The Duchess of Cornwall hosted the event at the Royal Mews to highlight the excellent work of the organization and to celebrate the hard work of its dedicated supporters.
Long-time Brooke supporters Fritz and Claudine Kundrun, William Bernhard and Catherine Cahill, along with Brooke USA Ambassador Margaret Duprey, were invited to the event where they were first treated to a private tour of the royal stables in the Royal Mews. Her Majesty The Queen and Her Royal Highness then joined guests to watch a demonstration by horse whisperer and Brooke Global Ambassador Monty Roberts, after which they enjoyed afternoon tea with The Duchess of Cornwall.
As the worldâs largest international equine welfare charity, the Brookeâs mission is to alleviate the suffering of working horses, donkeys, and mules in the developing world, where motorized vehicles are not an option for the majority of the population. Consequently it is not unusual for an entire extended family to depend on the income from a single donkey for all their needs. But even beyond the needs of the one family, entire communities rely on the work of these patient animals.
For more than 80 years the Brooke has helped owners to implement sustainable, culturally relevant solutions to enormous animal welfare challenges. They ensure that the right elements are in place for working horses, donkeys and mules to be healthy and happy now and in the long-term by providing scientifically proven methods to improve the welfare of the animals.
Last year alone, the Brooke reached approximately 1.8 million working equines, primarily in Egypt, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kenya, Ethiopia, Nepal, Senegal, Jordan, Guatemala, and Nicaragua. The Brooke has also recently launched a pilot program to assist working equines in Mexico
About Brooke USA - Equine Welfare Charity
Brooke USA is a 501(c)(3) charity located at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, which exists solely to support the overseas work of the Brooke â the worldâs largest international equine welfare charity. The Brooke was founded by Dorothy Brooke in 1934.
As the wife of a British Major General stationed in Cairo, Mrs. Brooke began a free veterinary clinic there after seeing the deplorable conditions of the British war horses who had been left behind in Egypt after WWI by the military and virtually sold into hard labor.
The Brooke has expanded over the last 81 years to assist millions of working equines, benefitting millions of people who depend on them in the worldâs poorest communities. The Brooke is currently working in Egypt, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kenya, Ethiopia, Nepal, Senegal, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Mexico.
