The American and Canadian Associations of Professional Farriers announce plans to hold an online auction of handmade farrier and blacksmith items, personal services and other items to benefit their new Farrier Assistance program.

The auction will be featured on the website www.ProfessionalFarriers.com where it will have exposure to farriers, blacksmiths, veterinarians, trainers, horse owners and others interested in equine podiatry.  Any person may bid on items.  The auction will begin on Friday, December 1, 2013.

“We are now in the process of soliciting items which can be offered through this unique online auction,” stated Doug Workman APF CJF.  “We believe that offering unique farrier and blacksmith handmade items, personal services, including farrier or veterinary services, use of a farrier’s property (boats, condos, etc.), and other items will reap a large amount of interest and funds for the Farrier Assistance Program.  We would prefer to not include items which can be purchased through a farrier retailer.”

“The AAPF/CAPF Farrier Assistance program was developed to assist in the organization of short-term assistance for members who are not capable of working due to illness or injury,” stated Adam Wynbrandt APF.

“The program has identified numerous ways in which this assistance can be offered including having other members shoe the injured or ill farriers client’s horses and providing financial assistance as needed.  All proceeds of this online auction will be used to assist fellow members of the AAPF/CAPF.”

The timetable for the auction includes:

Now through December 1, 2013 – Identification of items to include in the auction.

December 1, 2013 – January 30, 2014; Offering of items through an online auction system linked to the AAPF/CAPF and American Farriers Journal websites.

January 30, 2014 – Final bidding will occur during the last day of the trade show of the 2014 International Hoof-Care Summit in Cincinnati, Ohio. Successful bidders will be announced at that time. Be sure to visit us at Booth # 116.  Bidding can also be made through the online system right up to the end.
