The Retired Racehorse Project (RRP) announced today that registration is open for Aftercare Industry Month (AIM), presented by Thoroughbred Education and Research Foundation (TERF), a virtual conference taking place in February 2024 open to all with a professional interest in Thoroughbred aftercare from any facet of the industry.

Four webinar sessions will provide an interactive experience for attendees to explore topics in-depth that pertain both to non-profit organizations and business entities. Virtual attendees may now register either for the entire conference or for individual sessions a la carte via therrp.org/aftercare-industry-month/; a conference pass for access to all four sessions is $10 and an individual session pass is $5.

“We’re grateful to TERF for supporting our vision of building on the original Aftercare Summit concept, allowing us to tackle topics in greater depth and deliver sessions in a way that increases accessibility for anyone wanting to participate,” said Kirsten Green, RRP executive director.

“The aftercare industry in North America has grown into a diverse community of entities that contribute to a Thoroughbred’s transition in a variety of ways. The RRP is unique in that we interface with everyone within that community, and we’re striving to foster collaboration and networking which will only increase the impact of the community as a whole.”

Aftercare Industry Month will include the following four sessions:

Tuesday, February 6 at 7:00 PM EST: Making Aftercare Your Full-Time Job
Join Nina Lyman of TRRAC, Jessica Redman of Benchmark Sporthorses, and Jen Roytz of Brownstead Farm for a panel discussion about the realities of working in Thoroughbred aftercare full time. Each panelist brings experience in both non-profit work and aftercare business management to the discussion.

Tuesday, February 13 at 7:00 PM EST: How Does Your Contract Hold Up?
Laura Holoubek of Dinsmore will present this interactive session to help you make sure your contract or bill of sale is as strong as it can be. Learn what is enforceable, what isn’t, and how to make sure all parties, especially the horses, are protected.

Tuesday, February 20 at 7:00 PM EST: Networking Within the Industry
This panel presentation will feature Brit Vegas of Royal Fox Stables and an ASPCA Right Horse representative in a broad-reaching panel discussion about how to network to find the best solutions for horses and their humans in aftercare. Whether you’re a racehorse owner seeking to connect with an aftercare professional or organization, or an aftercare professional looking to help more horses, this panel is for you.

Tuesday, February 27 at 7:00 PM EST: The Difficult-to-Place Horse
Join Jen Ruberto of Wire to Wire Thoroughbreds and Bev Strauss of MidAtlantic Horse Rescue for discussion intended to help with those difficult-to-place horses, no matter what the reason. Bring your own examples of difficult-to-place horses to discuss in breakout sessions.
