The Chronicle of the Horse, founded in 1937 and now one of the equine industry’s most respected magazines, has announced the premiere of its newest lifestyle publication, The Chronicle of the Horse Untacked.
Untacked, which debuts in print and online today, Dec. 2, expands upon the comprehensive lifestyle vision of its award-winning digital predecessor, The Chronicle Connection. Inspired by the mantra, “It’s not just a hobby, it’s a lifestyle,” the new publication will highlight and celebrate every aspect of the true horseman’s life spent out of the saddle, from intriguing character profiles to insightful features, as well as book and film critiques, product reviews, travel, art, philanthropy, fashion, photography and more.
The new title, published quarterly in a stunning coffee-table format beginning in Winter 2013, was designed to complement and supplement the Chronicle’s up-to-the-minute news coverage and compelling features on chronofhorse.com and the in-depth analysis and commentary on industry issues in The Chronicle of the Horse magazine.
Untacked’s premiere issue features show jumper Georgina Bloomberg on the cover and a candid conversation with the soon-to-be mother about her career goals, family choices and life in the public eye.
The debut issue also includes features on the holiday traditions of well-known professional riders, a bridle-making workshop getaway in Scotland, and a closer look at the Petersen family, who’ve risen to prominence in the Florida show jumping scene with hard work, faith and fate on their side. It also includes an insider’s glimpse at President Reagan’s life as a horseman, a Q&A with author Felix Francis, who’s taken up the torch of his father Dick’s thriller series, the Chronicle’s 2013 Holiday Gift Guide, and much more.
“We are so excited to be bringing our readers this new publication,” said editor Kat Netzler. “There are plenty of gorgeous, glossy coffee-table magazines out there these days, many in which horses appear as accessories to a glamorous, curated life. But being a true horseman or woman means that competitions and awards are just one small facet of your equestrian experience. With Untacked, we want to focus on the humanity of horsemen and celebrate the universality of living a life devoted to the horse. It truly is not just a hobby, it’s a lifestyle.”
The husband and wife team of Mark and Katherine Bellissimo took over ownership of the company in the summer of 2013, and Katherine now serves as publisher of Untacked.
“When we purchased The Chronicle of the Horse last July, one of our goals was to expand the types of content for its existing readers as well as create a broader base of readership,” Katherine commented. “Untacked is a perfect vehicle to accomplish this goal. Kat and her team were well equipped to rather quickly step up to the task and produce a beautiful and enjoyable publication.”
Subscribers to The Chronicle of the Horse will automatically receive Untacked in print, but the new title will also be available in digital form
