Cuoco-Sweeting has joined The Humane Society of the United Statesâ campaign to protect the more than 100,000 American horses who are inhumanely slaughtered for human consumption each year. The majority of these horses are young, healthy animals who could have led productive lives with loving owners if theyâd been given the chance.
The video launch comes after the Safeguard American Food Exports Act was introduced in Congress yesterday afternoon to prevent horse slaughter plants from opening in the U.S. and end the inhumane transport of horses to Canada and Mexico for slaughter for human consumption.
Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting said: âAs a horse owner, I know firsthand the unique bond we share with horses, and I am passionate about protecting them from cruelty. To force any horse to endure the horror of slaughter is a betrayal of their trust and loyalty. I hope my PSA will focus attention on this important issue and bring an end to the slaughter of American horses.â
Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of The HSUS, said: âAmericans donât eat horses and donât want to see them inhumanely killed in North American for any purpose, and certainly not for export to dinner tables in Europe or Asia. Itâs time for Congress to close gaps in the law that allow this predatory and disreputable industry to gather up racehorses, show ponies, working animals, and backyard pets and treat them like nothing more than meat on the hoof.â
