What exactly is Beta? Beta is a lightweight coated nylon that is stronger and more durable than both traditional nylon and leather. It cleans up effortlessly with just a damp cloth and unlike nylon, it is exceptionally fade resistant. Beta is rated and tested for strength and safety while weighing up to 20% less than traditional leather. 

Beta represents a big step forward for everyday halters, according to Carla Perri, owner of Perri’s Leather. “Although it’s one of the most hard-wearing, longest-lasting materials offered in the equine world today, Beta remains soft, supple and remarkably pliable.  Beta also does not absorb sweat or moisture, making it less likely to irritate or chafe your horse,” she says. 

Knowing how the welfare of our equine partners is paramount, Perri’s added the safety and convenience of an easily replaceable break-away tab. This allows the halter to break free if a horse panics, pulls back or gets caught up, lessening the chance of serious injury. If an accident does occur, the broken leather tab can be readily replaced for a fraction of the cost of a new halter.
