Labor Day has come and gone and the days are getting shorter. However, LEGIS team members wrapped up the summer with some great show ring and educational experiences.

Insuring your horse's true value

Insuring your horse's true value

Mortality insurance is the basis of any equine insurance policy, but after you have had your horse for a while you may want to increase your horse’s value on your policy based on your horse’s show record as well as professional training the horse has received.

When she wasn’t competing with Team McAllister, our Horse Specialist, Amanda McQuady, was putting faces to names and talking insurance at the Showpark All Seasons Summer Tournament, the Portuguese Bend National Horse Show, and the International Jumping Festival - Blenheim.

Her next stop is the Del Mar International World Cup Week. Administrative Assistant Claire Johnson has been busy working on some fun events that are coming up. Read on to see what we are doing for Halloween and the Gold Coast October show.

Our Farm, Ranch, and Liability Specialist, Courtney Leonard, and Operations Manager, Sarah Berry, are out in the field visiting clients.

Our Managing Director, Marnye Langer, and LEGIS Rockstar have been rocking it on the show circuit, most recently winning the 10,000 Barby Hartwig Hereford Junior/Amateur Owner Jumper Classic and placing second in the $15,000 Seahorse Jumper Classic at Portuguese Bend.

Marnye and Sarah also rocked the National Alliance by earning their Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designations. They join an elite cadre of insurance specialists who have earned this prestigious credential. As CICs, they will be able to provide even more assistance and guidance to LEGIS clients. By obtaining specialized insurance training like this, the LEGIS Team are horsemen with insurance expertise.

LEGIS Rider Bonuses

With $70,000 of LEGIS Rider Bonuses available this year, the competition has been fierce. So far Hugh “Bert” Mutch and Michael Leon have each won a leg of a LEGIS Hunter Rider Bonus, and they are both after an even larger check. Bert is heading to the Nor Cal Finals Horse Show (Oct 8-12) hoping to add to his bonus amount by winning the hunter derby. Michael Leon has one more chance at Gold Coast October (Oct 16-19) to add to his check.

And in 2015 we are expanding the program to offer even more money to hunter and jumper riders at more show series. Stay tuned!

Client Spotlight

In case you missed it, LEGIS client Jenni Martin McAllister was the Practical Horseman cover girl for the August issue of the magazine!

Insurance Buzz

Mortality insurance is the basis of any equine insurance policy, and establishing your horse’s value is the first step. Often people use the purchase price for their horse, and this is an established and accepted method of determining value. .

An increase in value is usually based on your horse’s show record as well as professional training the horse has received. Our LEGIS Team can help you pull together the documents needed to make a request for a change in your horse’s value. Printed show records are a great tool and if your horse is recorded with USEF, these records are easy to obtain.

Sometimes people acquire a horse through some kind of deal and they feel the price paid is significantly lower than the horse’s actual value. Regardless, insurance is based on the actual value you acquired the horse for. Of course, if you and your horse do well in the show ring and you invest in training, you can request a change of value. Generally insurance carriers want to wait at least six months before considering an increase in value. Be sure to keep thorough records.

Our LEGIS Team is always available to answer questions, discuss situations, and help you with your insurance. We even enjoy hearing about the fun and successes you are having with your horse since the LEGIS Team members are all horsemen themselves. We live our motto “Horsemen Insuring Horsemen.”

Halloween Hilarity

Keep an eye on our Facebook page. We will be announcing our fun Halloween activity on Facebook early in October. We can’t wait to see how creative our LEGIS fans are!

Gold Coast Series Champions Sponsored by LEGIS

Once again, LEGIS sponsored the Gold Coast Series, and the series awards will be presented at the Gold Coast October Show (Oct 16-19). LEGIS will have their booth at the show, and the team will be helping present the series awards. We have special champion Kastel sun shirts for champions and embroidered saddle pads for reserve champions. In addition, the leading trainers in the Gold Coast Series and in the Gold Coast Outreach Series will win special getaway trips to deluxe vacation resorts as part of the LEG Trainer Incentive. Be sure to stop by the booth to pick up your prize and so we can take your picture!
