On August 26-28th junior and young riders will compete in the Area VI Eventing Young Rider Team Challenge to be held in conjunction with Shepherd Ranch Horse Trials in Santa Ynez CA. Dr Clair Thunes independent equine nutritionist and owner of Summit Equine Nutrition is a major sponsor of this year’s event and will be present to support the riders and offer nutritional consultations to insure optimum health and performance.
"I frequently hear from my eventing and other performance clients how important a properly balanced diet is to their competitive success and their horses well being” says Thunes “I’ve always enjoyed working with young riders through the United States Pony Clubs and am thrilled to have an opportunity to support the next generation of US event riders through the Area VI team challenge.”
Thunes received her PhD in nutrition from UC Davis in 2005 and started her work as an independent consultant in 2007. “In my opinion Summit Equine Nutrition is a lifesaver” says Alexandra Slusher USEA Developing Rider currently short listed for the Pan Am games. “My advanced horse Last Call tied up last year due to previously unidentified dietary imbalances. Since working with Clair my horses not only look and feel better, Last Call has had no problems tying-up”.
Summit utilizes state of the art software to perform dietary analysis and is completely mobile allowing Thunes to immediately provide clients with hard copies of her findings.
