Seasons Feed™, A New Concept in Feeding Horses.

No one in the family is more affected by seasons than horses. In the spring, vitamins surge in green pastures, coats need shedding, and beautiful riding weather taxes unfit muscles. In summer, bugs need repelling and brutally hot days demand salt and other electrolytes.

In autumn, grasses deplete just as new coat growth requires amino acids, and putting or keeping weight on becomes important. By winter, horses depend on hay that’s lacking in all those vitamins that disappear in the curing process, and they’re battling wet, thrushy conditions and illnesses that get passed around in the closer quarters.

“Our research revealed that most horseowners already make changes to their horses’ feed as the year progresses,” said Jeff Katelan, national marketing manager for Seasons Feed. “They add electrolytes and feed-through bug repellent in hot months, they add biotin and other hoof support in the winter, and they add probiotics when horses are more prone to colic.

Seasons Feed simplifies things for the horse owner. We do the work, leaving them only with the job of providing quality forage and fresh water.”

Seasons Feed will be available in four formulas, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter; every three months the formula will change in stores to maximize customer convenience. The first formula (Winter) arrives in stores December 2011, featuring:

  • Fiber to support the digestive system of horses with reduced turnout.
  • Digestible energy from fat, to aid in maintaining weight in cold weather.
  • Omega-3 fatty acids to support the immune system, especially needed in winter.
  • Probiotic yeast to boost hindgut microbials, to help avoid digestive distress, especially when cold weather limits turnout.

Like all Seasons formulas, Winter is pelleted for maximum absorption, easier consumption for horses of all dental conditions, and elimination of sorting or settling of ingredients. As Mr. Katelan pointed out, “This last benefit will be especially convenient for those who previously used supplements such as salt and other electrolytes in the summer, and hoof support for the winter and spring. By making them part of the pellet, we’ve reduced waste and expense for the customer, and greatly simplified their feeding routine.”
