Brand Names

  • Chondroprotec

Description

Chondroprotec is a polysulfated glycosaminoglycan sterile solution that is used in treating wounds. It is a patented technology derived from bovine trachea that contains glycosaminoglycans that support or enhance the connective tissue matrix and, as such, are found in the chemical composition of connective and soft tissues in humans and animals.

Usage

The compounds in Chondroprotec are beneficial in the management of chronic and acute wounds. Polysulfated glycosaminoglycans rehydrate dry wounds, maintain a moist healing environment, and protect from tissue trauma. Chondroprotec has been shown to be most effective in the earliest stages of the healing process, the granulation and wound contraction stages. Chondroprotec is used in treating first and second degree burns, partial and full thickness wounds, secreting and bleeding dermal lesions, trauma injuries, pressure ulcers, and surgical incisions.

Dosage and Administration

Chondroprotec is packaged in a sterile until opened 10 ml vial ready to be applied directly to the wound. The wound site should be irrigated with sterile water or a normal saline solution. Apply Chondroprotec liberally to wound surface. Cover with gauze or a non-stick pad. Re-dress wound site every 24 to 48 hours as needed. Follow veterinarian's and manufacturer's directions in each individual situation.
