Fire officials in Colerain Township, Ohio, announced that an electric heater used to warm a newborn calf was responsible for a fire that swept through a barn at the Oasis Crabbet Arabian breeding farm, killing 24 horses and the calf.

A passerby first reported the fire, and the farm owners also called saying horses were trapped, Conn said.

Authorities said the majority of the horses that died belonged to the farm, and some were boarded there.
