Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue is in need of donations this holiday season to help save the horses that are brought to their attention and also support horse owners that are in need of short-time assistance to get them through down times brought on by the economy or other financial situations.

Mattie's Fund is used to pull horses from kill pens and for transport of horses in immediate danger.

Mattie's Bridge The Gap Fund is used to help horse owners in urgent need of assistance with hay, grain or farrier care. No one is immune to misfortune or an occassional bad spell.  As all horse owners know, horses aren't cheap!  This fund will be available to help assist those individuals or families with the care of their horse(s) on a short term basis during these times.  In a sense, bridging the gap when it is most needed.

Mattie's Story

Angel Acres lost one of its dearest horses, Mattie, on April 25, 2009.  Neglect by Mattie's former owner and specifically lack of proper hoof care resulted in a horendous case of laminitis.  Once a majestic and pampered race horse, he was thrown away and sent to auction where he was purchased by a killer buyer to be sent to slaughter.

As destiny would have it, members of the Friends of Twilight, were able to purchase Mattie, saving him from slaughter.  Mattie, with his terrible tooties, was taken in by Angel Acres where he was loved and pampered while we nursed him back to health.   Mattie had an inspiring will to live and "ran the show" during his time with us...just ask anyone who met him!

All of us at Angel Acres miss Mattie dearly and it is our wish that his memory will live on.  To accomplish this we have established Mattie's Fund and Mattie's Bridge The Gap Fund which will help other horses that would otherwise be sent to auction/slaughter.

Mattie's Legacy Fund is a larger fund encompassing several direct support funds!

Mattie's Rescue Fund

Mattie's Bridge The Gap FundI guess we now have our own version of a stimulus plan...We are hoping that our many readers will spread the word and will join in and help Angel Acres help other less fortunate members of our horse community.  Angel Acres would not be here today if it were not for the wonderful support, care, kindness and generosity of  many people and organizations.

We are strong believers in the need to "pass it on"...it, in this case, being the kindness shown to us over the past 5+ years. We field calls weekly from people that do not want to send their horses to auction, but simply see no way out as they do not have the funds to feed or care for them properly.

This fund will allow private horse owners facing short term financial hardship to apply for help with hay, grain and farrier care until their financial situation changes or a new home can be found for their horse.  We have searched high and low for such a program (one to help private owners for the short term) and have been unable to find any available in our area.

More specific guidelines will be posted on the site by the end of the month. We are actively looking for partners in this program, please write or call today if you would like to volunteer to help with fundraising, administrative services, direct hay delivery, farrier care or any other means of support you can offer.

Finally...Please consider donating to Mattie's Fund today and help us help horses and horse owners facing desperate times.  Since the success and number of people we can help is solely dependent on the donations we receive, we will also be sending out bulletins at times requesting donations of grain, hay, care, etc. when we identify someone in need.

Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support Angel Acres fundraising efforts. If everyone donated just $1 to the fund, we would quickly meet our goal! That's less than the price of a cup of coffee. Please consider donating to the fund today. http://www.angelacreshorsehavenrescue.blogspot.com
