An outstanding line up of barrel racing’s most competitive athletes is partnering with Barrel Horse News to host “A New Turn: Improve More Than Just Your Time.” in Wilmington, Ohio, May 9-11, 2014.

The 5-D jackpot barrel racing, open to clinic participants, will allow an opportunity to apply new experience, while the onsite trade show will feature an extensive selection of items ranging from clothing, massages and makeup, to conversion companies for trailers, and tack. Various options are available for clinic attendance, including different horse and rider participation packages and clinic attendance as an auditor only.

“A New Turn” was tailored to provide participants with an exceptional clinic experience, including product availability and fun, in an effort to go beyond the boundaries of the typical clinic-only atmosphere. Amanda Johnson, marketing manager for Barrel Horse News, says the event will bring world-class clinicians to a dynamic environment.

“We are very excited about the exceptional clinicians involved in this event,” Johnson said. “They bring an incredible blend of World Champion experience and fresh, new talent. It will be a great educational opportunity for all skill levels.”

“We developed ‘A New Turn: Improve More Than Just Your Time’ with intentions of providing an all-inclusive experience as a premiere educational clinic for participants, and also allow horse and rider’s needs to be met, all in one weekend,” Johnson continued.

“It will have intensive educational elements, and specialized opportunities from trade show vendors— such as jean and hat fittings for riders and saddle fittings for horses, as well as a lot of fun.”

There will also be a “Night with the Champions” dinner during the weekend event, featuring guest speaker Patti Colbert, former executive director of the Mustang Heritage Foundation and creator of the “Extreme Mustang Makeover.” James, Peterson and Steffes, will be on-hand for the fun, social event, which is included with most clinic packages or can be purchased separately.

Each of the talented clinicians comes with incredible teaching credentials built from exceptional careers. James and Peterson have both won the coveted Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA) championship and qualified for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (WNFR) multiple times throughout the course of their careers.

Steffes, 26, is also off to a successful career start, making her first WNFR qualification in 2012, where she placed in two rounds, and then finished 25th in the World in 2013. She was also a highly competitive collegiate athlete, winning the College National Finals Rodeo all-around championship in 2007 and 2009, as well as barrel racing championships in the Central Rocky Mountain Region five years in a row.

“It’s an honor and very exciting to be included among two people I consider heroes in my sport,” Steffes said. “Just as Charmayne and Kristie’s career experiences create individual teaching perspectives for them, my outlook as a clinician will be one of both student and teacher.”

“I still feel like I am learning,” Steffes said. “I think you have to continue learning regardless of where you are to remain competitive, and I am hopeful that because I am at an earlier stage in my career than they are, I will be able to offer participants a different point of view.”

Registration for “A New Turn: Improve More Than Just Your Time” is due April 1.
