Three pre-conference tours will be offered that will highlight the equestrian activity that abounds in Connecticut. Everything from the home of an Olympic rider, to an equine rehabilitation center, or charming Mystic Seaport may be explored, depending on which tour you choose.
Tour 1: Visit Lionshare Farm, Greenwich CT (home of Olympic rider Peter Leone), High Hopes Therapeutic Riding Center, Old Lyme, CT (a premier PATH therapeutic riding center offering riding, driving, and a sensory trail), and Whitney Ridge LLC, Higganum, CT (specializing in training and showing American Quarter Horses and a Horse Farm of Environmental Distinction).
Tour 2: Visit Candlewood Equine, Bridgewater CT (ambulatory veterinary services and reproduction clinic) and First Company Governor’s Horse Guard, Avon, CT (home of the oldest continuously mounted calvary unit in the United States) and Fairfield County Hunt Club (a private club offering riding lessons, boarding and show facilities).
Tour 3: Visit Mystic Seaport (Museum of America and the Sea, a living history museum consisting of a village, ships and 17 acres of exhibits depicting coastal life in New England in the 19th century with horse-drawn carriage rides), Mystic Aquarium (one of the nation’s leading aquariums and home of famed ocean explorer Dr. Robert Ballard and his Institute for Exploration), and Olde Mistick Village (Wander along brick pathways to our more than forty stores which sell exceptional items from the world over).
The non-breed / discipline specific curriculum offers equine knowledge that transfers from the book to the barn, providing take-home tools to teach youth about safe and effective horsemanship. Above all the Symposium will connect you with resources, referrals, and networking to help kids connect through horses.
