EQUUS International, presented in collaboration with the Montana Center for Horsemanship, has announced two Festival awards and recognition for the award-winning film, Cowboys – A Documentary Portrait. The awards will be presented at a special edition of EIFF, November 4th at the historic Roxy Theater, where the film festival will host a Missoula premiere of this dynamic film.

The awards that 'Cowboys' will receive are: Best Documentary Feature of EIFF 2021, tied with 'Unreined' and a Special Award, for Highlighting & Honoring Equine and Human Traditions of the American West.

“A key element of the Montana Center’s mission is to perpetuate the defining tradition of the American West,” according to Janet Rose, a director with MCH and founder of EIFF. “When we presented the film for the first time in Dillon at our recent conference in partnership with Montana Western (University), we recognized that this documentary was symbolic of part of our mission.”
Janet adds that the film was offered to the Conference in Dillon as a special free public presentation. “Once we saw the exceptional cinematic presentation of Cowboys, we determined it had to be recognized for the ways in which it honors cowboy life, a legacy of the American West. It is so important for current and future generations to understand and know how much of America was developed by cowboys and cowgirls, and still is.”
The film will be screened one night only in Missoula at the Roxy Theater, November 4th at 7pm. Cowboy’s Creative Producer, Felicitas Funke, will present the film, meet with the audience and offer Q&A, after the film.
The film was produced and directed by filmmakers and working cowboys Bud Force and John Langone.
