Crimes Against Nature, a new original podcast produced by Latigo Associates owner Julie Bryant launched its first full episode July 15 with more than 100 downloads in less than 24 hours. The first episode outlined the attack on Dallas Mounted Police Horse “Cash,” during a Black Lives Matter protest held in Dallas May 30.

While the first episodes are focusing on horses, crimes against other species of animal will be explored, such as the decapitation of seals, cattle rustling and the issue of dog fighting rings.

Bryant spoke to officers from the Dallas Police Mounted Division about the attack, as well as the current environment regarding the defunding of police departments.
“The opportunity to visit with these officers and see Cash was a great way to start the podcast,” Bryant said. “This is a very timely story and I encourage people to listen to learn more about how the attack played out and how Cash is today.”
Bryant noted that interested listeners can go to CrimesAgainstNaturePodcast.com and click on Episodes to listen to the story and view scene photographs of the injured horse, as well as current photos. Bryant is currently producing the next episode which will explore the death of Alydar, who ran second to 1978 Triple Crown winner Affirmed in seven of 10 meetings in one of the greatest sports rivalries of all time.
Listeners will hear from his surgeon, veterinarian Larry Bramlage, DVM, of Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital, as well as former Kentucky Thoroughbred Association Executive Director David Switzer, who was a member of the team that worked unsuccessfully to save Calumet Farms from bankruptcy after the death of the famous stallion.
Future episodes will also include a look at what impact the Prevention of Animal Cruelty Act (PACT) signed into law by President Trump in 2019 will have on animal owners, as well as a look at how animal cruelty can serve as a gateway into other more horrific crimes against humans.
Bryant noted that while the first few episodes are focusing on horses, crimes against other species of animal will also be explored, such as the recent decapitation of seals in Vancouver, cattle rustling in Texas and the continuing issue of dog fighting rings.
“For the moment, Crimes Against Nature is a self-supported podcast, however, as our listener base grows and more tips come in, I look forward to welcoming sponsors to the show,” said Bryant. “With more resources, the show can provide more in-person interviews and increase in quality.
