Some of the country’s top American Quarter Horse sires are included in Colorado State University’s 17^th Annual Online Stallion Auction to benefit equine research. The auction runs Jan. 4-16 at www.32auctions.com/CSUStallionAuction and is sponsored by the CSU Equine Reproduction Laboratory and Orthopaedic Research Center.

Breedings with about 40 registered American Quarter Horse stallions are included in the service auction. Among them are top national winners in barrel racing, cow horse, cutting, ranch horse and reining competitions.

The auction’s premium sires include: One Time Pepto, a $10-million sire and 2014 NRCHA No. 1 Leading Sire All Ages; WR This Cats Smart, an NCHA All-Time Leading Sire with progeny winnings over $6 million; Olena Oak, a two-time AQHA World Champion Cowhorse and No. 1 NRCHA Leading Money Earner; 
and Slick By Design, a three-time NFR barrel-racing qualifier.

“This sale offers both tremendous quality and variety, with more emphasis on barrel-racing horses than in years past. We’re offering something for everyone interested in breeding American Quarter Horse performance horses, whether for competition or ranch work,” said veterinarian Dr. Jerry Black, director of both the CSU Equine Reproduction Laboratory and the university’s Equine Science Undergraduate Program.

Bidders may find not only good deals but, in some cases, breeding opportunities that otherwise would not be available because top sires are fully booked.

Even better, all proceeds benefit horse health.

Auction earnings support research conducted by the world-renowned CSU Equine Reproduction Laboratory, which provides clinical services and works to improve equine reproductive health; and the CSU Orthopaedic Research Center, a pioneer in improving the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of equine musculoskeletal disease.

“We look forward to a robust auction that helps breeders improve their genetics, while also supporting CSU research that ultimately improves the health of the horse,” Black said.

Bidders may register on the auction website; bids do not include chute fees, booking fees or associated reproductive and veterinary costs.
