Equine Rescue and Adoption Foundation located in southern Florida is a horse rescue that now needs its own rescue. The group which has rescued 130 horses since 2000 must move from its current location by April 30, 2014, because the property has been sold.
Equine Rescue and Adoption Foundation is the only shelter in the immediate south Florida area that can offer care and shelter to horses abused by neglect, and irresponsible breeding and feeding.
The rescue group is hoping people will hear their story and help out. They hope to buy a property with at least five acres and possibly with a barn and stables. Actually, 10 acres would be ideal and would give them room to continue answering calls about neglected and abused horses that need to be rescued.
ERAF, the non-profit organization, is the only shelter in the immediate south Florida area that can offer care and shelter to horses abused by neglect, and irresponsible breeding and feeding.
According to their website, all the expenses of caring for the rescued horses are the responsibility of ERAF. The veterinary care, farrier, equine dentist, medications, feed, hay, stall bedding, grooming, rehabilitation and re-training are expenses ERAF is able to pay largely through funding received from donations. ERAF receives no government assistance and is dependent upon grants and private donations.
According to Randy Kinder, president of the Board of Directors for ERAF, “We need to find property to purchase and/or purchase with a portion being donated. Another temporary option would be a property owner that will let us use their land and/or rent a barn and pastures."
