The Philadelphia Police Department is welcoming five new equine recruits into their service. The horses will be named for five officers who died in the line of duty over the past four years.

Horses Stephen, Santiago, Pat, Tiny Tim and Johnny will join the force as part of the department's expanding mounted unit.

Family members of the deceased officers participated in selecting the names for the horses which were adopted from the Standardbred Retirement Foundation and are currently housed at White Pine Farm in Richboro.

Plans are underway for a stable near the Philadelphia Police Department to house the horses.
