An investigation found that an electrical pole had rotted at ground level and had fallen over onto an electric fence. A fence board was broken and panels making up a gate were found inside the pasture.

Deputies were called to a rural Iowa property after six horses escaped under suspicious circumstances and one of the horses reportedly died due to heat exhaustion.

During their initial investigation, officers found no evidence that someone deliberately released the six horses.

The owner of the horse that reportedly died of hyperthemia due to heat exhaustion is not satisfied with the conclusion and says that multiple fences were broken in and multiple gated entries to the pen were compromised, warranting further investigation.

Sheriff's officials are now doing a follow-up investigation.
