The Irish Horse Welfare Trust (IHWT) has welcomed a €30,000 government grant, saying it will be crucial in allowing it to provide welfare services for equines.

The Trust chairman Jane Myerscough formally thanked Minister Simon Coveney and his agriculture department for the grant.

The minister also announced new details regarding a new code of practice to be observed by welfare organizations. By doing so, the procedures currently in place for reporting cases of animal cruelty or distress are made more effective.

The code will be part of the Animal Health and Welfare legislation which will be published early in the New Year.

The Irish Horse Welfare Trust  was established in 1999 to help the plight of horses in Ireland. They rescue, rehabilitate and rehome horses that have been abandoned, neglected or ill-treated.

The IHWT is funded almost entirely through public donations. You can make a real difference by making a donation, rehoming or sponsoring their horses.
