Two Therapy Championship classes were held â Assisted and Unassisted â and riders qualified by competing in designated shows over the summer. Held in the same ring as every other competitor to âHarrisburgâ rides in, these classes judged ridersâ abilities on equitation, position and communication with their horse.
Winning the Assisted Therapy Championship was Charles Turnbaugh of Newville, PA on âMister Sneedercise.â Winning the Unassisted Therapy Championship was Rhiannon Calp of York, PA on âSheâs My Lucky Charm.â
All of the qualified riders received embroidered backpacks filled with helmets, show shirts, riding socks, boot shine materials, and horse treats.
At the conclusion of the Therapy Championships, the Horse Show recognized âClydeâ from Pegasus Therapeutic Riding Academy in Philadelphia, PA as its first ever, âTherapy Horse of the Year.â
Chosen from nominations received by Foundation grant recipients, Clyde bested the other competition with stories about his temperament, patience and extensive years of service as a therapy horse. Clyde was presented with a Horse of the Year embroidered cooler and a wagon full of treats, saddle pads and tack.
