Two Therapy Championship classes were held – Assisted and Unassisted – and riders qualified by competing in designated shows over the summer. Held in the same ring as every other competitor to “Harrisburg” rides in, these classes judged riders’ abilities on equitation, position and communication with their horse.

Winning the Assisted Therapy Championship was Charles Turnbaugh of Newville, PA on “Mister Sneedercise.” Winning the Unassisted Therapy Championship was Rhiannon Calp of York, PA on “She’s My Lucky Charm.”

All of the qualified riders received embroidered backpacks filled with helmets, show shirts, riding socks, boot shine materials, and horse treats.

At the conclusion of the Therapy Championships, the Horse Show recognized “Clyde” from Pegasus Therapeutic Riding Academy in Philadelphia, PA as its first ever, ”Therapy Horse of the Year.”

Chosen from nominations received by Foundation grant recipients, Clyde bested the other competition with stories about his temperament, patience and extensive years of service as a therapy horse. Clyde was presented with a Horse of the Year embroidered cooler and a wagon full of treats, saddle pads and tack.

The Pennsylvania National Horse Show supports the Foundation, a 501(c)3 entity providing annual grants to equine therapy and rescue groups. For more information or to contribute to the Foundation, visit www.Panational.org or email Rebecca Kinsley at Rebecca@Panational.org.
