A man was arrested last Friday, September 6, on suspicion of illegally dumping two horse carcasses in an unincorporated area of San Joaquin County, according to the county Sheriff’s Office.
During the investigation, detectives worked with the UC Davis Veterinary Forensics Laboratory to track the DNA of one of the dead horses, and the lab came up with a match.
According to a press release, detectives from the Sheriff’s Ag Crimes department arrested a man in connection to two separate illegal dead horse dumping cases at around 1:30 p.m. Friday.
During the investigation, detectives worked with the UC Davis Veterinary Forensics Laboratory to track the DNA of one of the dead horses, and the lab came up with a match. Detectives were able to identify and locate the horse owner, and were then able to gather enough information to obtain a warrant for Decker’s arrest.
The man was transported and booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on charges of two counts of illegal disposal of a carcass, the Sheriff’s Office said.
This arrest comes after a series of similar cases in San Joaquin County since late last year. Deputies are reminding the public that dumping animal carcasses is illegal and they should make use of disposal services that provide this service.
Dumped animal carcasses are a health threat and dumping of the carcasses is illegal.
