Montana Barn Fire Kills 20 Horses

A barn with 20 horses inside became engulfed in flames early Monday morning. According to reports, none of the horses escaped.

The barn belongs to High Plains Stables and is a boarding facility housed 30 horses altogether.

Billings, Montana fire crews responded to a fully engulfed barn fire during early morning hours.

Billings fire crews responded to a fully engulfed barn during early morning hours. The assistant trainer of the facility discovered the fire after waking up to crackling sounds. The Battalion Chief said there wasn't enough water supply in the area, and a Laurel tender was bringing water to the scene

Sections of the barn's roof and walls collapsed as water was poured on the flames. Electrical lines on the west end of the structure were sparking.

The water tenders had to make a half-mile trip to the nearest fire hydrant to refill their tanks.

Yellowstone County Sheriff's deputies were on scene to control access and direct traffic in the area
