The track superintendent at Churchill Downs cancelled morning training for today's 138th Kentucky Derby and its 13-race card after a night of thunderstorms turned the dirt track into mud.
Butch Lehr made the decision early in the morning as crowds began to line up outside the historic Louisville track. The main track, which is dirt, was labeled sloppy at 8 a.m. EDT. The Derby will be run at 6:24 p.m. EDT,

Post time is scheduled for 6:24 p.m. ET. with the National Weather Service calling for mostly cloudy skies, a high near 85 and a 50 percent chance of rain.
Televised coverage of the race can be found on NBC beginning at 4 p.m. with an all-access look at the Kentucky Derby, as well as a red carpet special. Coverage of the race should begin around 6 p.m., with post time at 6:24. NBC will, as always, hold a post-race ceremony crowning the champion, which will last until 7 on NBC, and then a recap show will air between 7 and 8 on NBC Sports Network.
Last year, more than 164,000 people attended, an all-time high.
