As the new year 2018 approaches, horse owners are encouraged to: "Think Like Seabiscuit!" In with the the new; Out with the old! Seabiscuit's trainer Tom Smith was a “horse whisperer” known as “Silent Tom.” who could communicate with horses like few others.

Like Seabiscuit, horses have minds of their own and wise is the owner or trainer, who like Tom Smith, C. S. Howard and Red Pollard know when to act and when to sit tight.

Like the famous horse, Seabiscuit, horses have minds of their own and wise is the owner or trainer, who like Tom Smith, C. S. Howard and Red Pollard know when to act and when to sit tight. After all, by letting Seabiscuit be Seabiscuit, they all became winners with a legacy that endures through the years.

Maybe your horse wishes for a little change in the attitude of the rider or horse owner, or maybe your horse wishes for a new way of going about the daily horse check-up. What most horse owners don't realize is that a "horse whisperer" can lead horses to "make" New Year's resolutions.

  1. I will not treat my stall like a litter box. I will pee and poop outside whenever possible.
  2. I will not tip over the wheelbarrow while you are filling it with manure, even if I think it’s funny.
  3. I won’t spook at nonexistent scary things, even though it gets a great reaction from you.
  4. I won’t flip out when my pasture buddy goes off in a trailer, even when I know he’ll be back soon.
  5. I will not nibble the farrier’s ears.
  6. I will let the vet give me my shots without making like it freaks me out.
  7. I will not tip over the big water bucket in the pasture just because I can.
  8. I will not stomp on the salt block, breaking it into unlickable pieces.
  9. I will not trot away when I see you come towards me with a halter. I want to play, really I do.
  10. I will not pretend I have never seen a barrel pattern (jump, gate, etc.) in my life.
  11. I will swallow wormer without objection and without getting any of it on myself or you.
  12. I will get under you when you lose your seat, instead of seizing the opportunity to dump you in the dirt.
  13. I will not blow up like a balloon when you cinch my girth.
