Kentucky Derby winner Orb, Preakness winner Oxbow and a record five horses trained by Todd Pletcher, including Unlimited Budget with Rosie Napravnik attempting to become the second female jockey to win a Triple Crown race are entered in the Belmont Stakes race.
With the Belmont Stakes being a long 1 and 1/2 mile race on today's muddy track, the race will be a sight to see. Riding Oxbow, the Preakness winner, will be Gary Stevens assigned to the horse by trainer Wayne Lukas. Stevens who played a fictional jockey in the cancelled HBO series "Luck," and who retired in 2005 after a Hall of Fame career as a jockey, is happy to again be riding Oxbow.
The field of 14 horses in the Bellmont Stakes lineup most likely has some surprises in store for race fans. Will the wet, muddy track favor Orb, Oxbow or another of the horses when the 145th Belmont Stakes takes off from the starting gate near The Big Apple?
The answer: Anyone's guess!
