When a heating lamp in a barn stall shorted and started an electrical fire causing life-threatening burns over the majority of Bella's body, she backed her foal into a corner protecting it from the fire.

In the wake of the fire, Bella's devastated family realized that they were unable to care for her extreme injuries and tearfully reached out to the Humane Society of North Texas in hopes that we could save her life and the life of their beloved pony. When we arrived, it was clear that Bella's prognosis was bleak. She suffered severe burns to the majority of her body and the billowing smoke that she had inhaled scorched her lungs.  We rushed the pair to the care of an equine specialist, fearing the worst.

Just two weeks later, Bella has made amazing progress thanks to the meticulous, around-the-clock medical care provided by our dedicated staff and volunteers.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters and animal lovers around the country we have reached our original goal of $4,000. However, it has become clear that Bella's treatment will be more costly than we had originally thought. Bella is currently in an equine clinic who is providing advanced around-the-clock care to help her fight off the beginnings of a skin infection. Our medical team is also concerned that she may need ear surgery and lifelong ear care. Butterscotch is doing extremely well and is staying strong next to her mother through all of her treatment.

You can donate to the fund for Bella's care by downloading this form and mailing your donation or by going to North Texas Humane Society site

Thank you for your generosity. Your donations help us cure these deserving ponies and animals like them who are in need each and every day.
