Starving Horses and Donkeys Rescued in Texas

Location: KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas

The SPCA of Texas seized eight starving animals from two Kaufman County properties this past week. One horse was found wandering the streets in Terrell and five horses and two donkeys were removed from a residence in Kemp where neighbors said the owners had moved out several days ago and left the animals..

In both cases, the horses are underweight with one being emaciated, and the animals had clearly been without food, water, and care for some time. The donkeys are in fair condition.

The owners may face criminal charges and hearings will be held on September 30.

"There is no excuse for abandoning your livestock animals," said Art Muñoz, senior investigator for the SPCA of Texas.

"Ask friends and neighbors for help, ask your veterinarian, ask your local law enforcement or call the SPCA of Texas for possible resources if you are no longer able to care for your animals."
