Susan Kayne, Executive Producer of the award-winning equine lifestyle TV series Unbridled, announced today a call for submissions for the show’s new feature segment, THORO’TALENT, presented by THORO’BRED, INC.

Unbridled is an all-access pass to learn everything equine from the world's most accomplished and fascinating horse people. The series will broadcast its 10th season on HRTV in 2012.

THORO’TALENT showcases the many talents of off-the-track-thoroughbreds (OTTBs) and the heartwarming stories surrounding them. In the feature, owners and companions will reveal how owning an OTTB has changed their lives in a positive way.

In recognition of the breed’s versatility and intelligence, THORO’TALENT features OTTBs flourishing in a variety of activities and settings. “We are looking for true stories from people about their own experiences with OTTBs, from backyard pets to competitive athletic partners across disciplines,” said Kayne, who re-homes dozens of thoroughbreds each year. Joey in WAR HORSE is an OTTB, originally known as Finder's Key, he was unplaced in three starts for a $2,500 claiming price in 2002.

Sadly, Kayne noted, “most horses cannot earn their keep given the expense of racing, as a racehorse, Finder's Key was a failure. Yet, in his 2nd career on screen, he is an example of what a thoroughbred can accomplish with re-training.

His starring role in Steven Spielberg’s WAR HORSE is ultimately part of a larger American story; thoroughbreds are now the breed whose future is most at risk due to the recent lift on the ban of horse slaughter in the United States. Hopefully, his character will inspire audiences to learn more about horses, and how they too can incorporate a horse into their own life.”

In addition to a feature piece on Finder's Key, THORO'TALENT highlights the historical accomplishments of retired thoroughbreds, such as Jet Run, Idle Dice, and Sweet'N'Low, in the Grand Prix ring.

THORO’BRED was founded in 1949; it is one of only four horseshoe companies worldwide. THORO’BRED makes 495 different horseshoes,“for over 60 years, THORO’BRED has dedicated its resources to producing shoes designed to preserve and prevent injuries to racehorses.

We are delighted to present THORO’TALENT to serve as a platform to showcase the achievements of retired racehorses in 2nd careers and share their inspirational stories. Many of these horses wore our shoes during their racing career. At THORO’BRED, we are committed to manufacturing the best horseshoes for the various activities in every stage of their lives,” said Ed Kinney, President of THORO’BRED.

THORO’BRED racing plates have been worn by legends of horseracing for six decades, including Secretariat, John Henry, Cigar, Alysheba, Affirmed, and beloved champions Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta. THORO’BRED also makes a multitude of shoes for horses engaged in other activities.

Submissions for the 2012 season of UNBRIDLED will be accepted beginning January 10, 2012 through January 31, 2012. Send stories to: ThoroTalent@UnbridledTV.com
